Monty's Caribbean Kitchen is a family run business, first started up by husband and wife team Patrick and Angelina Montague in 2014.
Patrick is originally from Jamaica and grew up enjoying the good food and sunny skies of the Caribbean. Angelina is from Barnstaple but met Patrick in London whilst working there.
We settled back in North Devon and realised that other people either hadn't tasted or were unable to buy the food that we loved cooking so we started up an underground restaurant to bring a taste of the West Indies to the area. Eventually after much help and encouragement from family and friends we decided to expand the business and make it more accessible, and acquired a catering trailer.
We had a regular pitch at Roundswell, Barnstaple and attended local festivals, markets and camp sites.
A few years later, with a few more children and a few more wrinkles, we opened our restaurant in Barnstaple centre. We spent 4 years there and had a wonderful time but all good things come to an end and we closed the restaurant in September 2019.
We have now come back from a year in Jamaica and are ready to get back to the cooking so we have hit the road with our mobile food trailer for festivals and markets and we are now doing deliveries Thursday -Saturdays.
We are still also available to cater for private parties, birthdays, events and weddings and hope to bring a real sense of the Caribbean to North Devon!
